The University uses Microsoft 365 (M365), both the web-based and desktop version, as one of its primary productivity, collaboration, and communication tools. M365 includes a variety of applications such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, OneDrive, Copilot, Bookings, and several other applications. It is installed on computers in classrooms, learning spaces, virtual computer labs, and offices throughout campus. It can also be accessed on individual devices.

To access M365 Web: Sign in to MyßÏÀÖÔ° > click Email

As a ßÏÀÖÔ° Blazer, you can take advantage of the following M365 features:

Security Standards to Retain your ßÏÀÖÔ° Microsoft Account:

With or without notice, access may be denied for any user who does not adhere to the following standards:

  • Update your MyßÏÀÖÔ° password at least once every 180 days; as needed, or as instructed by ßÏÀÖÔ° Information Technology.
  • Forwarding your ßÏÀÖÔ° email account to or from 3rd party applications like iCloud, Gmail or Yahoo mail is prohibited for security purposes.
  • Upon withdrawal, graduation, or end of employment from ßÏÀÖÔ°, you agree to uninstall all software obtained through ßÏÀÖÔ° Microsoft Advantage Education Program.
  • Alumni and retirees cannot install ßÏÀÖÔ°'s Microsoft 365 desktop applications on personal devices.

  3. At the upper-right section of the screen, click the Install and more dropdown and select Install Microsoft 365 apps.
  4. From the Apps & devices page, select Install Office and follow installation directions.
  5. Activate using your ßÏÀÖÔ° email address (Organizational Account).

Read Before Installing

BitLocker is a Windows encryption function that helps protect your devices. If you are using Windows 10 or 11 Pro or Education on your personal computer, the installer may automatically enable BitLocker when downloading the Office 365 suite. If you disregard or improperly store the BitLocker data recovery key provided after installation, you could be locked out of your device. The only resolution would be to reformat or replace the hard drive and install a new operating system. This issue does not affect Windows 10 and 11 Home users.


Upon installation, complete one of the following options: 

Option 1: Locate your BitLocker recovery key on your Microsoft account 
  1. On another device, go to  to sign in to your Microsoft account using the login information you use to sign in to your personal computer.
  2. Once logged in, your recovery key (a 48-digit numerical password) should be displayed followed by the device that you used to install Office. Take note so you can use the key if prompted.
 Option 2: Disable BitLocker 
  1. In the Microsoft Windows Start Search Box, type Manage BitLocker and select it from the list of results.
  2. Under BitLocker Drive Encryption, next to the drive you enabled BitLocker on, click Turn off BitLocker; or from Privacy & settings > Device encryption
  3. Windows will start a decryption process, which may take a while to complete. You are able to still use your device while the decryption is in effect.

Alumni and Retirees

Security Standards | Turn Off Email Forwarding | Migrate to a Personal Account

You can still access ßÏÀÖÔ°'s Microsoft 365 Outlook (Email), Teams, OneDrive (100 GB), and Office Online web applications. However, you cannot install ßÏÀÖÔ°'s Microsoft 365 desktop applications on your personal devices. Upon withdrawal, graduation, or end of employment from ßÏÀÖÔ°, you agreed to uninstall all software obtained through ßÏÀÖÔ° Microsoft Advantage Education Program. You may elect to migrate to a personal Microsoft 365 account. 

1-Year Alumni-Access Period: You can continue to access your @valdosta.edu email account as an alum for up to one (1) year after you graduate from ßÏÀÖÔ°. After the alumni-access period has expired, your ßÏÀÖÔ°/Microsoft account will be disabled, and you will no longer have access to your ßÏÀÖÔ° email and other online resources. Access is only restored if you are enrolled as an active ßÏÀÖÔ° student returning to obtain a subsequent degree or if you become a ßÏÀÖÔ° employee. 

Retiree-Access Period: Retirees may access their ßÏÀÖÔ° account until notified otherwise.

  1. Log in to your ßÏÀÖÔ° web email or the new Outlook desktop version.
  2. Click the Settings gear icon located in the upper-right corner of your screen.
  3. Under the Mail category, select Forwarding
  4. Delete exisiting 3rd party email address and then click the Enable forwarding slider to Off (gray circle).
  5. Click Save in the bottom corner.

Rules (Remove rules that forward or redirect emails to another email address):
  1. Log in to your ßÏÀÖÔ° web email or the new Outlook desktop version.
  2. Click the Settings gear icon located in the upper-right corner of your screen.
  3. Under the Mail category, select Rules
  4. For any rules listed which forward or redirect emails to another email address,  click the Trash Can icon to delete the rule. Next, click OK to confirm deletion of rule. 

Classic Outlook:

In classic Outlook desktop version, email forwarding is typically setup using a rule.

  1. On the File tab, select Manage Rules & Alerts.

  2. Under the E-mail Rules tab, seelct the 'forwarding' rule you created.

  3. Select Delete > OK.
