Below is a list of commonly asked questions for topics supported at the NMC. These can include printing services, audio and video editing software used, equipment circulation support, and duplication and transfer.

If your question isn't answered using the list below, send us an email at media@valdosta.edu or use our contact us form

Printing

We can print standard 8.5x11, 8.5x14, and 11x17 sheets using the Xerox laser printer. We have 2 Xerox printers in our office. One is intended for Onecard use and the other is for paying with cash, check or departmental invoces. We don't have the ability to print say an 8"x10" photo or 5"x7" photo. However, we can print on an letter sized paper (8.5"x11") and cut out to the smaller scale that is needed.

For prints larger than that, we have large format printers capable of printing on 24” or 42” wide paper. We typically use either a 36" roll or 24" roll.

Pricing for the large format printers is based on length of the print coming out of the printer and the material type used. We have either coated paper or glossy photo paper for poster printing. Prints on the 36” wide glossy roll are charged 45 cents per inch of length being printed out. While prints off of the 36" coated roll will be charged at 35 cents per linear inch of coated paper coming out. We would use the 24" roll for printing out banner posters. The only paper type we have is coated paper if using our 24" roll size. This option is charged at 25 cents per linear inch coming out of the poster printer and is more or less reserved for large banner print requests.

We also can laminate and spray mount to foam board anything that is at or smaller than 24"x36" in size (portrait or landscape orientation). We don't advise laminating glossy paper. Note, adding on lamination will increase the cost by 75 cents per linear foot laminated. Our lamination machine is able to take 24" wide media. Thus, a poster that is say, 36"x48" will not be able to be laminated at our office nor spray mounted to foam board. The price for foam board is also additional cost. If the foam board is considered used and viable for use, we would offer it at $3 per board. If the foam board is new, we would charge $6.50 per white foam board used and $7.50 per black foam board. If someone were to bring in their own foam board, then we would charge $1.00 per board to do the spray mount job.

If a job request takes more than 30 minutes to complete like cutting out laminate o foam board, then an additional $10/hour service charge will be given. An example that could qualify would be a print request requiring us to laminate and cut out 100 posters. All supply and service charge fees will be taxed if paying via cash or check.

A common poster print request perfomed at our office would be a 22x34 inch poster that is coated, laminated, and mounted to white foam board. To print and laminate at this size, the cost per poster will be $9.95. The cost to add new white foam board will bring the total supply cost up to $16.45 for each poster completed. If this is paid via cash or check, then we will need to add an 8% sales tax to the purchase. If this is paid via a departmental charge, then the tax will not be included in the total cost.

Note, pricing can change and it will be important to validate the cost with the NMC before starting a job with our office. Please either email us at media@valdosta.edu or call us at (229) 333-5863 during our hours of operation.

Any plain paper printed on the Xerox (8.5x11, 8.5x14 and 11x17) can be paid using 1Card funds if working in our front lab. To do so, simply send the print off to either ßÏÀÖÔ° Follow-Me-Color or ßÏÀÖÔ° Follow-Me-B&W. If a job is sent to us directly via email at media@valdosta.edu for either of these print sizes then we can complete it for you, but it won't be eligible for 1Card use unless you are in our lab using your 1Card to print. If you didn't bring in your own laserjet friendly paper, we do also supply the items listed below for an additional cost based on paper type.

  • Cardstock - 5 cents additional per page
  • Glossy Cardstock - 25 cents additional per page
  • Transparent Paper -  25 cents additional per page

Note, the cost for printing on the sizes listed below differ based on whether or not it is in color or black and white, if it is 2-sided or not, and what size the print is. You can see this break down on our price list page for Xerox Printing/Paper Supply.

We have two Xerox Printers in our office.

There is the ßÏÀÖÔ° Follow-Me fleet machines, which take 1Card payment if using plain paper for letter size, legal size, and tabloid size paper. Our office in the library is the only space where all three paper types are already pre-loaded in this machine. The other areas in the Library are just plain paper with letter sized paper loaded. However, if our machine is having issues, we can temporarily use a different Follow-Me fleet machine with say tabloid or legal sized paper.

We also have a seperate Xerox Printer, which is intended strictly for payment via cash, check or departmental funds. The base cost of printing on non-specialized paper that is set across all ßÏÀÖÔ° Follow-Me Printers is also used when considering what we would charge if using the other Xerox machine. You can see this break down on our price list page for Xerox Printing/Paper Supply.

Departmental/Organizational authorization for invoice charges is an acceptable alternative for payment. See the following resource for an annual  if sending us a request to charge a department.

We can print on most forms of paper. Standard still apply. Be careful to ensure you bring the correct paper type to work best with our printer. We will need printing paper that is able to be used on a Laserjet. InkJet paper is not recommended for use on our Xerox laserjet printer.

We do offer transparency, photo, and cardstock paper for purchase. Standard printing prices apply in addition to the . Materials will be paid by cash or check, while the campus printing price will be deducted from your 1Card balance if using the follow-me-printers.

Depending on individual need, formatting will vary. We do have training materials on our website to guide you through the process. It is important that you design your poster in the dimensions you plan on printing out as to avoid skewing and distortion.

If you need a quick poster design that is already scaled to 36x48 inch, then try one of these PowerPoint designs found on .

We often advise students to use something as simple as PowerPoint or Canva to make their print design. Please be sure to scale your poster to the right size before creation. You can also visit our office for support or email us at media@valdosta.edu or call us at (229) 333-5863.

We have a that you are welcome to use for sending us a poster sized print that is 18x24 up to 36x48 inches in size. If you are having trouble using the form, please feel free to visit our office for support or email us at media@valdosta.edu or call us at (229) 333-5863.

Audio and Video Editing

Yes we can.  We can provide you with the training you need to learn how to use video editing software like Adobe Premiere.

This is up to you.  If you are familiar with the editing software, you should be a good judge of how long it  will take you to finish the type of project you are working on.  If you do not have experience editing audio/video files, stop by the office as soon as you are aware of the project to start training with one of our New Media Technicians.  If your project is due in a week, start right away.  You will need as much time as possible to work on it.  Please do not wait until the last minute.

It is recommended that you store your data on both an external hard drive and a cloud storage area like OneDrive or Google Drive. Media projects can be very large. It is important to stay organized with your video, image, and audio assets for each project you plan to work on.
