History/Biography:  COBEC (Consortium for Belize Educational Cooperation) 

The mission of the Belize based program is to promote and implement programs and activities that allow for the development of higher education. Through the use of initiatives such as student exchanges and study abroad programs with member institutions, along with the development of financial aid resources, the organization encourages the advancement of education in Belize.  The COBEC website is located at:  

Dr. Tracy C. Harrington, Director of International Programs and Professor of Physics, Astronomy, and Geosciences (1991-2005) donated the COBEC papers in 2004. He was the ßÏÀÖÔ° representative of the program, a position that Dr. Jane Zahner holds to date.

Scope and Content: The boxes contain papers dealing mainly with Dr. Harrington’s connections and works pertaining to the organization COBEC (Consortium for Belize Educational Cooperation). The papers include by-laws, articles of incorporation, correspondence between members and officers, grant requests/approvals, meeting information, travel information, records of organizations activities, paperwork for/of proposals, the minutes of meetings, and other paperwork that is necessary for running/maintaining a program. The first three boxes were kept in the order which they were donated. The 4th and 5th boxes were organized by the Archives staff. The first three boxes are not arranged in chronological order; dates appear from a wide arrange of years in each folder. The last two boxes are organized by content and date where possible. The collection is mainly correspondence and notes from meetings.
