Sue Bailey Honored with Blazer Creed Award at ßÏÀÖÔ°

Sue Bailey from the Office of Professional and Community Education is the recipient of ßÏÀÖÔ°’s 2025 Blazer Creed Award for Citizenship. She joined the ßÏÀÖÔ° staff in March 2007 and currently serves as administrative coordinator for the Learning in Retirement program and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) Center for Applied Creativity and Innovation.

VALDOSTA — Sue Bailey from the Office of Professional and Community Education is the recipient of ßÏÀÖÔ°’s 2025 Blazer Creed Award for Citizenship.

As the Blazer Creed states, ßÏÀÖÔ° is a learning environment based on trust and mutual respect, in which open dialogue, vigorous debate, and the free exchange of ideas are welcome. The university is dedicated to the core values of community, including a commitment to practice the following:

Civility — A Blazer shows courtesy and compassion as well as respect for the dignity of every human being.

Integrity — Each Blazer is responsible for his or her own actions, and our community is stronger when we contemplate the context of our decisions and uphold the principles of trust and honesty.

Citizenship — Every Blazer has an interest in the wellbeing of the community and, therefore, a duty to stay informed, to make positive contributions, and to offer support to those who need help.

Bailey embodies the spirit of citizenship through her leadership, compassion, and dedication to the community. As a member of the Remerton City Council, she continually seeks ways to serve others, foster growth, and share meaningful experiences. Her kindness and wisdom inspire those around her and make a lasting impact on the Valdosta community.

“Winning this award inspires me because it affirms the value of what I do every day — building community, serving others, and leading with integrity,” she said. “It reminds me that every bit of support we offer, no matter how small, can and does make a difference in the lives of the people we serve.”

Bailey joined the ßÏÀÖÔ° staff in March 2007 and currently serves as administrative coordinator for the Learning in Retirement program and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) Center for Applied Creativity and Innovation.

“Working at ßÏÀÖÔ° is the best job I’ve ever had,” she said. “I especially love running the Learning in Retirement program. It’s not just a job; it’s an opportunity to make a real impact and allows me to see the joy and curiosity of lifelong learners every day. It’s truly rewarding to help build meaningful connections, create programming that sparks discovery, and watch the Learning in Retirement members thrive as they learn, explore, and engage with each other and the community, both on campus and off.”
