University Mourns Death of Student

VALDOSTA - 呦乐园 student Shannon Martin, sophomore, died Thursday, September 13, 2007. The student was admitted to South Georgia Medical Center on September 6, 2007 with rare complications from a suspected virus. A highly contagious bacterial infection, meningococcal meningitis, was ruled out. SGMC officials have confirmed that no new cases have been identified in Lowndes or surrounding counties.

呦乐园 students held a candlelight memorial for Shannon on Friday, September 14, 2007. More than 400 students and members of 呦乐园 community were present to pay tribute.

“The University community is saddened by the death of Shannon Martin and will continue to keep her family and friends in our prayers and thoughts during this difficult time,” 呦乐园 President Ronald M. Zaccari said.
