Skip McDonald, Valdosta State's first black Homecoming queen
Skip is one of many Pioneers of Integration who attended ßÏÀÖÔ°'s Homecoming 2013. She was crowned homecoming queen in February 1974.

Robert Pierce, the institution's first African-American male student, serves as a Pioneer of Integration at ßÏÀÖÔ°.
Drewnell Thomas
Drewnell Thomas, the institution's first African-American female student, serves as a Pioneer of Integration at ßÏÀÖÔ°.
The official kickoff for the celebration was September 18, which marks
50 years since Valdosta State welcomed its first two African-American students
for their first day of classes.
