Dr. Joseph Jones

Dr. Jones’s scholarly inquiry centers on the complex intersections of identity, power, and school culture, with a particular emphasis on P-12 educational environments. Grounded in the philosophical frameworks of Michel Foucault, his research examines the ways in which systemic ideologies and institutional structures produce, normalize, and perpetuate educational inequities. His work offers substantive contributions to the fields of curriculum studies, educational policy, and the cultural foundations of education.

Dr. Jones is the author or editor of ten books, including Code Red: Conversations and Solutions for an Educational System in Crisis, which was nationally recognized with a book award from the Society of Professors of Education in 2025. In addition to his books, he has authored more than forty articles and book chapters and presented approximately 150 presentations.  His scholarship has garnered multiple honors and awards.

Dr. Jones earned his Ph.D. in Teaching, Curriculum, and Change from the University of Rochester and holds a B.S.Ed. in Secondary Education (English Education) from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Across his professional trajectory, as both a classroom practitioner and academic leader, he has maintained a commitment to the integration of theory and praxis, which he believes is necessary when creating positive educational spaces for all learners.
